Spice Girl Melanie C makes low-key arrival in Australia

Spice Girl Melanie C has arrived in Australia for a national tour – but her first stop was very on-brand for the Sporty icon.

Spice Girl Melanie C has made a typically low-key arrival into Australia ahead of her national DJ tour.

There have been none of the usual photos that emerge when an international celebrity visits our shores: No airport paparazzi snaps, or sightings of her out on the town at celeb hotspots.

Instead, the first confirmed sighting of Melanie C has been very on brand: Sporty Spice’s first stop was to a cryotherapy centre at Freshwater, on Sydney’s northern beaches.

“So awesome having the multi-talented superstar Melanie C @melaniecmusic (aka Sporty Spice from the @spicegirls ) visit the Northern Beaches today for some well deserved recovery, jet-lag cure and rejuvenation during her Australian tour!” Cryo Northern Beaches posted on their Instagram account on Thursday evening, alongside a photo of the super-fit 49-year-old looking fresh-faced and relaxed.

“We love you heaps Mel.”

This marks Melanie C’s first visit to our shores since 2020 – and her first in her newest vocation as a DJ. Her tour kicks off with a sold-out DJ set on Sydney Harbour tonight, before she plays DJ sets at festivals in both Melbourne and Adelaide tomorrow. Appearances in Brisbane and Darwin will follow, before Melanie C ends the tour next weekend with two festival sets back in Sydney.

Speaking to news.com.au during her last Australian visit – which came hot on the heels of the Spice Girls’ enormously successful 2019 four-piece UK and Ireland reunion tour – Melanie C confessed fans of the group probably shouldn’t get their hopes up at the prospect of an Australian Spice Girls tour.

“Spice Girls is incredible, but we are a NIGHTMARE. It is so, so difficult to get this thing to happen. It really is so explosive that it only happens in very short bursts. I hope it happens again. It may, it may not,” she told news.com.au of the group’s touring prospects.

Three-and-a-half years later, the group appear no closer to reforming – although fellow Spice Girl Melanie B did recently tease that there was something in the works, involving all five members (yes, even Reluctant Spice Victoria Beckham).

“We’re going to be doing something together pretty soon, all five of us, which I can’t say when it is, otherwise I’ll be in trouble as usual,” she promised in a chat with news.com.au, amid reports that “something” may be a Netflix documentary series charting the group’s 90s heyday.

“But we’re just still getting it together, but that’s all I can say. Or should I say, that’s all I’m allowed to say. It is going to be something with all five us that you can actually enjoy, for the fans.”
