The British pop star, 30, stunned locals in the Blue Mountains on Wednesday with their unlikely visit to the local Blackheath Butchery.

The Grammy winner, who goes by they/them pronouns, happily posed with butcher Bruce Tonning, who posted the photo on the shop’s official Facebook page.

“Sam and I just having a cuddle,” the post read.

Smith, who has been in Australia since late December ahead of a one-night only show in South Australia later this month, was seen sporting a yellow polo shirt, denim shorts and leather cross-body bag in the happy snap.

The Unholy singer’s upcoming concert, to be held at the d’Arenberg Cube on a yet-to-be-revealed date, is the only show they’ll put on while in Australia.

In the meantime, Smith is enjoying some down time in Sydney, where they posted photos ringing in the New Year at Sydney Harbour on their Instagram page – which showed the world-famous fireworks display at the Harbour Bridge.

It comes after Smith made headlines for posting pictures of themself wearing a tiny swimming costume on a yacht in December.

They took to Instagram to share the holiday photos, telling followers to “always wear sun cream” as they flaunted a leopard print swimsuit.

The post came a few weeks after fans went in to bat for the singer when they were attacked online for wearing a glittery silver jumpsuit while performing their hit song Unholy alongside Kim Petras at the Jingle Ball event in London.

Smith took to the stage wearing a silver sequined Valentino jumpsuit with black patent boots, silver waist belt and drop earrings. But the look prompted cruel comments about the singer’s weight, sending fans into defence mode as they called out the blatant body-shaming.

Smith had previously been open about struggling with their body image for some time.

In 2019, the singer admitted they felt self-conscious if they were photographed without a T-shirt and would often starve themself in anticipation of a photography session.

“In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a T-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down,” the non-binary singer wrote.

However, they decided to “reclaim” their body, saying it was time to “stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally”.
