Photos emerge of Aussie billionaire James Packer’s new ‘prison-like’ mansion in Mexico

Casino mogul James Packer’s $50 million Mexico mansion has been likened to a maximum-security prison, and it’s not hard to see why.

James Packer's decade of disaster

New photos have emerged of reclusive billionaire James Packer’s sprawling $50 million Mexican digs after three years of construction.

The massive single-level pad occupies one of largest beachfront blocks in Cabo San Lucas, on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.

The 54-year-old businessman purchased the block, which has direct beach access, in 2018, reportedly for $10 million.

Despite its costly extravagance, one neighbour thought the property looked more like a home for criminals than one that belonged to one of Australia’s wealthiest people.

“It looks more like a maximum-security prison, to be honest,” the neighbour said, according to Daily Mail Australia.

Given the living quarters exist behind a huge imposing wall, it’s not hard to see how they arrived at such an opinion.

Several separate buildings make up the home, some joined by walls and others appearing to be fully freestanding.

A large open air courtyard occupies a large square area in the centre of the home, with a reasonable area of lawn in the backyard leading to a unique-shaped infinity pool.

Beneath the pool is a slight area of cliff before a drop onto beach sand.

Photos of the new property emerged following news the Crown Resorts owner has put his $283 million superyacht up for sale.

The casino mogul bought the yacht in 2019, which boasts a cinema, nightclub, swimming pool and barber’s salon, and was originally purchased for around $200 million.

The yacht which is named IJE, believed to be after his three children Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle, has been listed on the site of international superyacht broker Burgess Yachts.

It states that it was “built as the ultimate world-cruising family yacht for a very experienced owner” and can fit 22 guests in 11 cabins, which includes a private owner’s deck.

Mr Packer’s current net worth is estimated to be around $US3 billion ($A4 billion), according to Forbes.

About eight months ago he gave video evidence to the NSW independent Liquor and Gaming inquiry into money laundering in his casinos.

It was examining evidence that the gambling giant facilitated money laundering by Asian high-roller “junket” tours at its Perth and Melbourne venues.

A probe into Crown Resorts recommended back in February that the embattled gaming giant have its Sydney casino licence revoked, in a crippling blow to its $2.2billion Barangaroo project.
