Nicole Kidman slammed by angry fans on Instagram

The Hollywood star’s latest move has gotten her into hot water with fans on Instagram.

Nicole Kidman has found herself in hot water after sharing a post on Instagram promoting a controversial fashion brand.

The Aussie star took to the social media platform to post a photo of herself in the latest campaign for fashion house Balenciaga and was immediately met with anger from fans.

The brand was infamously forced to apologise last year after it unveiled a photoshoot that included children holding teddy bears in bondage harnesses and costumes. The backlash against the images was swift, with the hashtag #cancelBalenciaga trending and many accusing the brand and its creative director, Demna, of condoning “paedophilia” and “child exploitation.”

Despite the global backlash last year, in Kidman’s latest post on Sunday she revealed herself as the brand’s newest ambassador during their Fall 2024 show in Los Angeles.

The actress shared a series of snaps on Instagram celebrating her new role, and it sparked numerous angry responses from fans in the comments who shared their dismay.

“Seriously? Come on Nic. Your better than this. UGH.,” one user said.

“No. You too. Did you forget?” another said. “This designer has been cancelled. They promote ads the public didn’t want. It was wrong.”

“Well that’s disappointing, but not surprising really” a third added, while another bemoaned: “Disgusting!”.

It comes after the Being the Ricardos star, who’s carved out an impressive 40-year Hollywood career, recently shared that she makes sure she isn’t informed of online criticisms that she might face.

“Don’t tell me, I don’t really want to know – it will stop me doing what I want to do. There are times when you hear things and you go, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s really hurtful’,” Kidman said.

“Because you can’t be under a rock. But at the same time, I really try to stay free in the choices because otherwise, before you know it, you’re just closed off and you can’t step anywhere.

“ … I want for myself just to keep going, ‘Oh, well, I’m trying something or I wanted to do it. It was fun. That was my choice. And yeah, I own it. I’m accountable. Whatever. I take responsibility. Nobody else chose it.”
