Matt Damon has been spotted at Derby Day

A huge Hollywood star has been spotted at an exclusive Melbourne event and might not be who you’d expect.

Matt Damon is at Derby Day in a turn of events none of us could have seen coming while watching The Bourne Identity.

Damon, 53, has been spotted at the event that kicks off the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The annual event is known for its strict black-and-white dress code, and attendees go all out.

Naturally, there are a few people you expect to see turn up for the big event. Influencer Bec Judd always appears, and television presenter Richard, alongside his son Christian Wilkins, usually turns up with bells on or, in this case, a giant hood.

You couldn’t say it is the crème de le crème of the Australian scene, like, you aren’t going to run into Naomi Watts having a punt, but it is a thing.

This year, Oscar winner Damon has popped on a suit, grabbed some sunglasses and headed off to the festivities and he was there alongside his wife Luciana Barroso, and good friend, Elsa Pataky.

The A-lister was a guest of LANDMARK by Lexus and was pictured mingling with guests and seemed to be doing an accidental Tom Cruise impression with the sunglasses giving big Top Gun vibes.

Pataky is famously married to Chris Hemsworth, and Hemsworth and Damon are known as good mates.

Pataky has previously told PEOPLE that they ended up meeting because Hemsworth was a big fan of Damon’s acting.

“Chris has been a big fan of Matt Damon, me too, and then when I met his wife I’m even more of a fan of his wife,” she explained.

Pataky gushed they were “amazing people” and they were also in similar life stage, just two couple’s raising kids.

“We have three kids, they have four kids, so we ended up making the same plans because everything we do we do with our kids, so it’s easier to do things with people that understand you,” she said.

The families have become so close that Damon is often spotted in Bryon Bay visiting his famous friends, and as a result, Damon has become quite the Aussie local, he was even at The Royal Queensland Show this year.

Damon shared on The Ellen DeGeneres show that he’d become “buddies” with all the Hemsworth brothers and said visiting Australia was an easy option for him because he could blend in.

“I kind of hide pretty well,” he admitted before quickly explaining that Hemsworth was too tall to go unnoticed.

“He can’t hide at all,” he joked.
