She’s sold tens of millions of records worldwide – so what on earth is Lana Del Rey doing working in an Alabama fast food restaurant?
Surprising footage has surfaced on social media today, showing the singer in uniform – complete with name tag – apparently working behind the counter at a Waffle House restaurant in Florence, Alabama.

Little is known so far about the star’s sudden foray into the hospitality industry, however some fans on social media report Del Rey was in fact gifted the uniform and name tag by employees at the restaurant, and so decided to get into the spirit of the gift and try her hand waiting tables.

One fan’s photo with the singer has been circulated on social media: “Casually bumping into Lana Del Rey at Waffle House this morning!!!” he captioned the pic, showing Del Rey – real name Elizabeth Grant – wearing sneakers, uniform and her Waffle House name tag:

Del Rey, 38, is one of the most successful singers of the past 10 years, with five Australian number one albums to her name. Earlier this month she sold out a headline show at London’s Hyde Park for 65,000 fans, and she has an estimated net worth of more than $40 million.

But she also keeps a low profile outside of her concerts and music releases, and has in the past expressed an interest in following career opportunities outside of music.

Accepting the Artist of the Decade Award from Variety in 2021, Del Rey said that she had been “very lucky to follow my muse for the last 18 years, since I was 18.”

“Sometimes that has taken me super far away from music into other mediums and other job opportunities that have nothing to do with the arts at all. I’m very flexible and what I’ve come to understand is that if you follow what you’re interested in, you’ll end up being the most creative in that field,” she continued.

“Even if you get a 9-5 after you got the decade award, you need to do what feels right.”
