Kourtney Kardashian has been slammed by fans after posting a conspiracy theory about face masks, claiming that they cause cancer.
The 41-year-old Poosh founder, who has over 102 million followers, shared a post on her Instagram claiming that the surgical masks are “made of PTFE, a carcinogen made from synthetic fluoride.

“According to Cancer.Org it increases the risk of liver, testicle, pancreas, kidney & breast tumours + ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, pre-eclampsia and high cholesterol. High exposure can cause influenza-like symptoms and haemorrhaging in the lungs, leading to suffocation.”
The post included a photo of the surgical disposable masks which have been used across the globe to help curb the spread of coronavirus.
Kourtney added a wide-eyed emoji and head-exploding emoji to the post, which was linked to the American Cancer Society, but was quickly debunked by a member of the organisation.

In a statement to the New York Post, Dr William Cance, chief medical and scientific officer of the ACS, said: “There is no evidence to support the claim that the presence of PTFE in a mask causes cancer.”
“As a surgical oncologist, I, along with thousands of colleagues in the healthcare profession, have been wearing masks for years to protect patients from the spread of infections,” he added.
PTFE aka polytetrafluoroethylene is a man-made chemical which is usually found on certain items like non-stick pans with Teflon coatings.
It didn’t take long for people online to call Kourtney out for the dangerous and misleading post, some including doctors.
Itâs one thing for a random people on social media to claim that masks cause cancer... itâs another for @kourtneykardash to be doing so on her Instagram stories to >100 million followers. UTTERLY FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE.

The scariest thing to happen on Halloween this year is Kourtney Kardashian posting this utterly ridiculous post about blue masks with no medical evidence or proof, it's just some random screenshot. Medical professionals worldwide wear them but this screenshot means it's true... pic.twitter.com/F96Fe9cVUG

not kourtney kardashian posting on her story about how masks can give you cancer. encouraging 100m+ followers not to wear masks to protect them from COVID is a new low. the irony that she made staff wear masks at her privileged island party lol pic.twitter.com/pC41dsv3mH

Fans were livid with the reality star for spreading misinformation during a global pandemic, especially when she has such a huge fanbase of followers.
The Kardashians have been in hot water all week, with Kim Kardashian being labelled as “tone-deaf” when she flew a large group of family and friends to a private island to celebrate, as well as Kendall Jenner hosting a huge birthday bash where nobody was social-distancing or wearing masks.
