Despite a growing backlash over their controversial social media posts, the Kardashian family has refused to back down, citing financial reasons.

The Kardashian family has defended its decision to keep promoting weight loss products on social media, despite a growing backlash from fans who have labelled it irresponsible.

In an interview with the New York Times Khloe and Kim Kardashian hit back at those who criticised their spruiking of brand Flat Tummy Co.

Both sisters have found themselves the centre of social media storms after promoting the brand’s products — which critics claim only achieves weight loss by acting as a laxative — in recent months.

Last month Khloe deleted an Instagram post promoting Flat Tummy Co’s shakes after her followers labelled it a “pathetic” money grab by the multi-millionaire.

Leading the criticism was The Good Place star Jameela Jamil, who campaigns against weight loss products being promoted on social media, asking Khloe to “be smarter” and stop spruiking the brand.

Jamil wrote: “If you’re too irresponsible to: a) own up to the fact that you have a personal trainer, nutritionist, probable chef, and a surgeon to achieve your aesthetic, rather than this laxative product … And b) tell them the side effects of this NON-FDA approved product, that most doctors are saying aren’t healthy.

“Side effects such as: Possible Flat Tummy Tea side effects are cramping, stomach pains, diarrhoea and dehydration … Then I guess I have to.”

Speaking to the New York Times, Khloe labelled Jamil a “silly person,” disputing the actress’ claims she had a personal chef and arguing she was transparent with fans because she posted her workouts to Snapchat.

“Well, listen, I am showing you what to do, silly person, 15 repetitions, three times, here’s the move,” Khloe said.

Kim argued she and her sisters were well within their rights to promote whatever products they like in order to make a living.

“If there is work that is really easy that doesn’t take away from our kids, that’s like a huge priority, if someone was faced with the same job opportunities, I think they would maybe consider,” Kim said.

“You’re going to get backlash for almost everything so as long as you like it or believe in it or it’s worth it financially, whatever your decision may be, as long as you’re OK with that.”
