The widow of late MasterChef Australia star Jock Zonfrillo has looked back at wonderful moments they shared this time last year.
Lauren Fried took to Instagram to reflect on the couple’s holiday in Italy in August 2022 with their two children: six-year-old son Alfie and two-year-old daughter Isla.
“One year ago today in Italy, in search of the best bowl of alla Nerano,” she wrote.
Fried accompanied her post with a slideshow of their vacation, sharing snaps of the family exploring the lakes and streets of Italy.
Zonfrillo’s fellow MasterChef judge and good friend Andy Allen was among the many to leave a comment.
“Just one bowl???’ he cheekily wrote, followed by a love heart emoji.
Italy had always been a playground for the family and in April this year, they decided to relocate to Rome permanently.
They had planned to start a new chapter in the Italian capital with Zonfrillo only returning to Australia when required for his filming requirements on MasterChef.
Three weeks after making the move, the famous chef returned to Melbourne to promote the new season of MasterChef, leaving Lauren and their kids behind in their new home country.
Sadly, days after returning to Australia and on the eve of the MasterChef premiere, Zonfrillo was found dead by police at Zagame’s House hotel, just around the corner from his former family home in Carlton.
It was later determined he died of natural causes. He was just 46.

Upon his death, Lauren and their two children returned to Melbourne to mourn their beloved husband and father.
At his private funeral weeks later, Lauren gave a heartwarming eulogy, sharing what they had hoped and planned for the future.
“We were two halves that found each other at the exact moment in life when we were ready,” she said at the service. “We were ready for that big love to live a life of adventure, to become parents together, to imagine extraordinary things and to actually make them happen.”
