Famous 80s pop star, 66, spotted landing in Australia
She had a slew of the biggest hit songs in the ’80s, and now, this pop star has landed in Australia looking as young as ever.
It’s been a long time coming for Australian fans of this ’80s pop legend, and now, Belinda Carlisle has finally arrived down under.
The 66-year-old US performer has cancelled the local leg of her “Decades” tour four times over the past few years, first due to Covid, and then, in November last year, she pulled the pin just one week before travelling to undergo emergency knee surgery.
But the singer has officially been spotted arriving at Sydney Airport, set to perform a slate of shows across the country from Wednesday night.
Carlisle looked as youthful as ever as she touched down in Sydney, before later heading to Perth where she’ll kick off her tour to a sellout crowd at the Astor Theatre September 18.
She’ll then head to Melbourne for back-to-back shows at the Palais Theatre from September 20, before hosting five shows across New South Wales, and finally, wrapping with two concerts at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on October 5 and 6.
The concert will span Carlisle’s near four decades in the music industry, including hit songs Heaven Is a Place on Earth, Leave a Light On, Summer Rain and Circle in the Sand.
Carlisle found fame in the late ’70s as the lead vocalist for popular rock band the Go-Go’s, before going on to forge a successful solo career after the band split in 1985.
The singer will no doubt be thrilled to finally make it to Australia, after revealing she was “really embarrassed” to have to cancel her scheduled tour November last year.
“This is a video I did not want to make,” Carlisle began in a social media post.
“As you know I was meant to be going to Australia next week for a tour that has been postponed three times. I had an accident and I damaged my knee and I have to have emergency surgery tomorrow.
“This is going to prevent me from coming to Australia this time. I’m really embarrassed.
“I hope it will be rescheduled for 2024 if you’ll have me. I wasn’t expecting this at all. It is just bad luck.”
