Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney responds to criticism over MAGA party pics

Actress Sydney Sweeney has copped backlash over photos from a family birthday celebration which appear to make a political statement.

'Euphoria' star says she barely earns enough to survive

Sydney Sweeney is dismissing the criticism she and brother Trent received after sharing several snaps from their mother’s surprise birthday hoedown Friday night, as followers expressed disappointment in what they assumed were signs of her family’s conservatism.

“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,” the Euphoria actress, 24, tweeted Saturday.

“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”

The snaps in question show several partygoers wearing red MAGA-inspired hats that read, “Make Sixty Great Again,” which Trent clarified on his own Instagram account.

“Trump era is over baby boy,” wrote one follower within his comment section, with another adding, “You set your sister up.”

Within Sydney’s snaps, a man is also seen wearing what appears to be a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt, symbolised with a black and white flag with a blue stripe down the middle.

“Nice blue lives matter flag shirt,” another sarcastic critic offered, with one more adding, “Damn is this a Maga rally??”

Blue Lives Matter (also known as Police Lives Matter) is a countermovement in the United States started in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, advocating for law enforcement officers.

Fans also took the siblings to task via Twitter, with one posting, “Kinda funny how Sydney Sweeney carefully curated her IG post so that none of the MAGA-inspired hats were seen and then her dimwitted brother’s post blew it all up.”

“If Sydney Sweeney disagreed with her parents politics she’d say that. Notice that she said it was “innocent” instead. Meanwhile the innocence is bigotry,” another wrote.

Others mocked the star using clips of her as Cassie from popular Binge series Euphoria.

Some were supportive of the actress, dismissing criticism of her due to her parents’ perceived conservatism.

Aside from causing a stir online, the birthday hoedown appeared to be a good time for all in attendance.

Activities included linedancing, jean jacket embroidery and mechanical bull riding.
