‘Disgusting’: Pop star slammed over detail

A wild detail included in a picture of Charli XCX has sparked angry backlash from the internet for being “insensitive”.

Charli XCX has faced fierce backlash on social media after fans spotted a detail in her latest photoshoot with New York Magazine.

The magazine’s spread gave insight into the 32-year-old’s latest album, Brat, which has become a cultural phenomenon in recent months.

However, one picture in particular has caused quite a stir.

In one of the snaps, shot by David LaChapelle, Charli is seen lying on a stretcher in a red mini-dress with doctors, paparazzi, and spectators crowded around her. Her arm is bandaged, and her bloody hand can be seen on a bed of ice.

Upon zooming in on the picture, fans noticed bracelets around the bloody wrist that resemble Swift’s friendship bracelets, a trademark of her Eras Tour.

The gruesome picture left some fans claiming on social media that the photoshoot could be seen as insensitive towards the victims of the shocking stabbing attack last month.

In July, three girls were stabbed to death at a Swift-themed dance class in the UK, and many of the attendees wearing friendship bracelets which have become synonymous with Swift and her fans.

“After what happened in Southport … Charli XCX is disgusting for this. esp since the victims were CHILDREN,” complained one fan.

“This [photo] is absolutely disgusting …” remarked another.

A third tweeted: “I don’t feel any type of way about Charli xcx tbh but choosing to feature a bloody friendship bracelet after the context of the last few months is certainly a choice!”

“I really feel like in light of the murder of 3 little girls at a taylor-themed event the magazine definitely should’ve reconsidered putting out these visuals,” added another, while others suggested the imagery was just a reference to “rave culture”.

In recent months, Swift and Charli have been rumoured to have been feuding after the Eras tour star blocked the British singer from scoring a number one album.

Charli’s song “Sympathy is a Knife” is a dig at Swift.

In verse two of the song, Charli sings: “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s shows/Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick”.

For those not in the know, Charli is currently dating George Daniel from the 1975, you know, otherwise known as Matty Healy’s (Swift’s ex-boyfriend) bandmate.

However, Swift has done her best to dampen the rumours, going as far as to give a positive quote about Charli to the magazine.

“I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011,” she’s quoted as telling New York Magazine this month. “Her writing is surreal and inventive, always. She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off,” the superstar added.
