Dick Van Dyke, 98, spotted with his rarely-seen wife, 52 ahead of his birthday
Dick Van Dyke has been spotted with his rarely-seen wife as the pair hit the gym ahead of his birthday.
Dick Van Dyke has been spotted out with his rarely-seen wife, Arlene Silver.
The Hollywood legend, 98, was seen stepping out with his 52-year-old spouse as the pair shared a laugh in Los Angeles, California.
His wife of 12 years seemed in good spirits beside him as she helped the actor along using his walking cane.
The award-winning actor was seen grinning and looking happy as he stopped for a quick chat with fans who had spotted him.
According to reports, he told one them: “Tomorrow, that’s right [in reference to his birthday]. My God, nobody should be 98 years old!”
He then pointed and smiled towards his wife and said: “I hate going to the gym. She makes me go to the gym!”
The pair have been seen going to the gym numerous times over the last year, with Van Dyke managing to remain active despite his age.
When they first met, Silver and Van Dyke were initially friends before it blossomed into a romance.
In 2013, Silver spoke to Access Hollywood about her romance with the actor and revealed that at first she thought a relationship with the older actor would “never work.”
However, after she accepted their age gap, she felt that they fit seamlessly together as they both shared the same “attitude” and many similar interests.
“It works so well, it’s frightening that it’s just easy. Once we gave up the whole … the age thing, it just worked so well,” she said.

Opening up about his age recently, Van Dyke shared his shock at “still being here”.
“Oh my god! I don’t think I’d even be here, to tell you that truth,” he told Forbes, when speaking about the idea of life without her. “She keeps me in shape, feeds me and I love her more everyday. We’re just getting closer and closer.”
“He’s really made me a better person,” interjected Silver. “I was very cynical, I think, when I first met him. He’s such a great human being and he’s so pure in his thoughts and his heart, that it’s rubbed off on me. Just all the wholesome things of life – that’s what he has and he’s just made me a better person.”
