Crown fans explode as Netflix releases images of final season
Netflix has released a series of images of the final series of The Crown and fans are reeling after seeing the last photo.
Netflix have released a series of images of the final series of The Crown which will tell the story of Princess Diana’s death.
The streaming service posted the photographs of series six to Instagram on Monday.
Fans were quick to react to the images, with many saying they “weren’t ready”.
The first image is of Aussie actress Elizabeth Debicki with Fflyn Edwards and Rufus Kampa, who play Princes Harry and William.
The other images show Dodi Fayed, played by Khalid Abdalla, the Queen, played by Imelda Staunton and Prince Charles, played by Dominic West.
Many fans broke down when confronted by the final image, a single picture of Debicki in a black suit staring sorrowfully into the distance.
“I’m crying already,” another said.
“Screaming,” one simply added.
Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed both died in a car crash in Paris 31 August 1997.
They had spent the night at the Ritz, which was owned by Dodi’s father Mohammed, when they got inot a car with driver Henri Paul and bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones.
Dodi and Henri were killed instantly but Diana was alive when emergency services arrived on scene. She died the next morning at the hospital.
Producers had vowed to handle the subject of Diana’s death “sensitively”.
Netflix had previously been criticised by some fans for not stressing that some scenes in The Crown are not historically accurate.
The streamer has said that the series has always been presented as a drama based on historical events.
Season six will be split into two parts, with the first four episodes released on 16 November.
