Chris Hemsworth’s ‘epic day' surfing with Kelly Slater in WA

The good friends hung out together for some sun and surf before the pro-surfer competes in the Margaret River Pro tournament.

Chris Hemsworth has rolled out the welcome mat for Kelly Slater, who arrived on our shores this week ahead of the Margaret River Pro competition in Western Australia.

The tournament kicked off yesterday, but with Slater competing in the coming days, Hemsworth took the opportunity to hang-10 and go for a trial run with the American pro-surfer.

“Epic day of surf fun and sun,” the Aussie actor, 39, captioned a carousel of Instagram videos and photos of them surfing in the region.

In the photos, Hemsworth – who is based in Byron Bay in NSW – was all smiles as he and wife, actress Elsa Pataky, spent the day in the water with 51-year-old Slater and their friends.

This isn’t the first time Hemsworth has supported the 11-time World Surf League champion during a tournament.

Last year, after the athlete took out his eighth Pipeline Pro title win in Hawaii, the Thor star was among the first to congratulate him.

“Congrats, Kelly. Greatest of all time. What an inspiration,” he praised on Instagram.

And the duo have hung out many times too, with Hemsworth accompanying Slater on a few surf trips in the past, even surfing with the champ at his famous WSL Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California.

“Lucky enough to surf the best wave pool on the planet. Big thanks to Kelly Slater and WSL for the opportunity!” Hemsworth shared on Instagram at he time. “This place is incredible.”

“The thing is fast and it barrelled. My dream as a kid was to be a pro surfer but I was never good enough to remotely consider that as a possibility. My happiest memories as a kid was surfing with my dad and my brothers”

“For me, it was always a perfect place to clear my head. There’s this magnetic pull to the ocean that I’ve always had and I think that anyone that spends a moment in the ocean tends to have that same addiction.”
