“I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom,” the actress wrote on Instagram over the weekend. “proud mama!”
Shields, now 56, was nominated in ’98 for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Suddenly Susan but lost out to Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart.

At the Globes, Shields paired her red strapless gown with a matching wrap — plus bright-red lipstick and nail polish. The diamond rings visible on her left hand appear to be from her then-husband Andre Agassi, whom she divorced in 1999.
For the prom, 18-year-old Rowan — who is Shields’ eldest daughter with husband Chris Henchy — ditched the wrap and wore lighter makeup with neutral shades on both her lips and nails. She added her own personal flair with a black Hermès handbag, simple bangle bracelet, plethora of rings and — it being prom — a white wrist corsage.

“That’s so cool!” added Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman.
Ali Wentwoth, whose daughter Elliott Stephanopoulos also recently attended prom and wore a plunging black gown, wrote, “You both are [fire and love heart emojis].”
Shields and Henchy, who married in 2001, are also parents to a 15-year-old daughter named Grier.
