Amy Sheppard is offering a fresh perspective on gaining weight
Australian musician Amy Sheppard has gotten candid about gaining weight and the refreshing reason behind it.
Musician Amy Sheppard has opened up about her weight gain and why the extra kilos make her feel free.
Sheppard, 32, rose to fame thanks to being a founding member of the Aussie band Sheppard, which spawned the hit ‘Geronimo.’
That banger spent three weeks in the number one position on the ARIA singles chart and has been certified platinum five times.
Now, the singer is opening up about gaining weight, and her message is very positive.
Sheppard posted a before/after of herself in a swimsuit and wrote an empowering caption about her changing body.
“I’ve put on weight. Don’t pity me!”
She went on to explain that she didn’t see her weight gain as “toxic fat”, but rather “this soft, juicy extra layer is freedom!”
The singer shared that she’d gained weight thanks to living a healthy and fun lifestyle and attributed the extra kilos to saying yes to doing things with family, friends and lovers.
“It’s dinner out with my beautiful friends; it’s a romantic walk to get ice cream with my partner; it’s saying YES to new foods when travelling. It’s feeling satisfied every day instead of deprived and irritated every day,” she wrote.
Ms Sheppard also clarified that the extra weight was a positive thing.
“This extra weight is my life, and there’s no way I could ever trade it for a tiny pair of jeans again,” she revealed.
A few days later, Ms Sheppard posted a bikini photo, one where she was posing and another in a more relaxed stance.
In the posed image, her stomach looked flat, and in the candid snap, less so.
Once again, Sheppard used the comparison to share an important message.
“There is nothing wrong with either photo, but one is curated and the other is candid. Next time you scroll through your favourite influencer’s feed, keep this in mind,” she wrote.
Sheppard is not the only star getting real about weight and why gaining weight isn’t bad.
In 2020 Taylor Swift spoke about her weight in her Netflix documentary Miss Americano and how she’d gone from a size zero to a size 6.
Swift explained that there was a period where, “I wasn’t eating,” and explained she felt the pressure to be skinny because of the culture, although she realised even when she was at her smallest, she still couldn’t hit every beauty standard.
“If you’re thin enough, then you don’t have that arse that everybody wants. But if you have enough weight on you to have an arse, your stomach isn’t flat enough. It’s all just f***ing impossible,” she explained.
Similarly, Selena Gomez recently addressed her weight gain, explaining that she’d gained weight due to taking medication to help with Lupus.
