Shane Warne’s kids Brooke and Jackson talk about their famous dad as they star in Kayo TVC

He might be one of the most famous cricketers of all time — and a headline magnet — but to his three kids, Shane Warne is a lot more than that.

Brooke, Jackson and Summer Warne haven’t had the most conventional childhood.

Their dad is a bona fide Australian legend. If you’re asked who “the most Aussie people ever” are, Shane Warne is no doubt in your top five. He’s part of the fabric of our great nation.

As one of the best cricketers to ever put on the baggy green, the iconic leg spinner has long been a headline magnet around the world; for his sporting prowess, the occasional scandal and his straightforward charm.

But it sounds like fatherhood is something he should be most proud of.

Brooke, 21, and Jackson, 20, are the stars of Kayo’s new TVC ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup. They’re a perfect fit, both admitting to being sport mad across the board. And as part of it, they’ve also revealed a softer side of their famous father.

When asked what lesson their dad had instilled in them growing up, Brooke and Jackson answered without hesitation.

“Manners are free,” Brooke told news.com.au.

“We’ve been brought up very well, from little kids to now adults.

“We’re very lucky kids. We wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Jackson agreed. “Good manners are free. That’s definitely something he’s taught us. And just to be happy.”

This meant a lot to Jackson going through school, as he felt extreme pressure to follow in Warne’s footsteps in cricket.

But the burning desire was not there.

“I played one year when I was at school, and in one of the games it got in the newspaper and made some articles,” Jackson said.

“The whole pressure factor … I could never be that good, I could never try to be that good.

“The pressure and expectations … I just was not really interested.

“But when we were going through school, it didn’t matter what we wanted to do, Dad just wanted us to be happy.”

Despite being recognised everywhere they go when Warnie’s in tow, Brooke and Jackson said they viewed him as “just dad”.

“I think I speak for Brooke, Summer and myself, we don’t see him as anyone else other than just our dad,” Jackson said.

“We don’t see him as a legend. All the names people call him, we just see him like our dad and that’s it.

“We don’t feel privileged. He does what every dad loves to do.”

But they also said that didn’t take away how proud they felt of what their dad had achieved in cricket.

Both Brooke and Jackson were very young when Warne retired from the professional stage, admitting the penny didn’t drop until recently of the massive impact he had — and still has — on sport in Australia as he prepares to commentate the hugely anticipated 2019 Cricket World Cup for Fox Cricket.

“He commentates so real and natural, he just knows what he’s talking about,” Brooke said.

“I think when we were little we didn’t appreciate how much of a legend he actually was and how much he did.

“It’s only recently, the past two years or so, we’ve started to realise, he’s bloody good. He changed sport completely.

“So now when we watch on TV, we’re so proud of him. He’s bloody awesome.”
