Kidman was left distraught at the passing of her father, Dr Antony Kidman, who died of a heart attack while visiting his other daughter, Antonia, in Singapore.
But when the Kidmans gathered to say goodbye to their beloved patriarch, the Grace of Monaco actress’s children with former husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 21, and Connor, 19, were nowhere to be seen.
“It must have been crushing for Nicole not to have Connor and Isabella there. I think it’s sad the kids stayed away at Nicole’s time of need,” a source close to Kidman said according to RadarOnline.
Rumours have long circulated that Connor and Isabella’s relationship with their mum has been strained because their ties to the Church of Scientology.
In 2007 she revealed that her two eldest children don’t call her “mum”.
“They call me Nicole, which I hate and tell them off for it,” she said.
Kidman has said in the past that she respects their beliefs.
“They live with Tom, which was their choice,” Kidman admitted to Hello! magazine in 2010. “I’d love them to live with us, but what can you do?”
“I’ve chosen not to speak publicly about Scientology,” the Moulin Rogue star told Vanity Fair in 2013. “I have two children who are Scientologists — Connor and Isabella — and I utterly respect their beliefs.”
Earlier this year, Connor Cruise denied any friction with Kidman telling Woman’s Day “I love my mum.”
“I don’t care what people say. I know that me and mum are solid. I love her a lot. My family means everything,” he said. “Family comes before everything else.”
Connor, 19, is an aspiring DJ, and Bella, 21, is a budding artist. They haven’t been photographed with their mother since 2007.
