Michelle Bridges admits her pregnancy comment was ‘naive’

Michelle Bridges has admitted she “learnt a lesson” after making a “naive” comment about falling pregnant later in life.

The former Biggest Loser trainer gave birth to her son Axel in 2015 when she was 45 years old.

Bridges announced her pregnancy in Who magazine at the time with her then partner, Steve Willis, and sparked outrage with a comment suggesting she was able to fall pregnant because of her exercise regimen

In the interview she said: “All of my years and all of Steve’s years of looking after ourselves and taking care of our health and our bodies – it just goes to show for someone my age for it to happen so quickly it’s obviously got to do with good health.”

At the time, the 12 Week Body Transformation founder was called “smug” and her comments labelled “the most uneducated cr*p I’ve ever heard” by fans of Who’s Facebook page.

“Being fit & healthy is not the reason why you got pregnant so quickly. There are plenty of women who are fitter and younger than you and struggle for years to have a baby.

“And there are others who eat junk and don’t exercise and still get pregnant. Shows how ignorant you are,” one Facebook user wrote.

Now, in a new interview on the podcast The Good Chat with Anita Anabel, Bridges reflected on her 2015 comment and said, “I got blasted in the media for saying that. There was a lot of backlash from people that had said, ‘I look after myself, I’ve done all of that too!’

“I get that,” Bridges continued. “So I thought, OK, that was a naive thing to say, Michelle, lesson learned.”

Bridges told podcast host Anita Anabel, “I feel for all the women and men who are trying to get pregnant and are having trouble. I know many people are in that boat … and it’s hard.”

Bridges now co-parents Axel, 5, with his dad Steve Willis after their split last January.

When asked how motherhood had changed her, Bridges replied: “I’ve learnt to be much more vulnerable. I can cry like that, whereas before I had a lot more poise about myself, I could hold it together better.”

Bridges added that it’s “amazing to be a mum” and said, “I don’t regret it at all, in fact I wish I’d started earlier but I’m just grateful that I did it when I did … I got lucky and I’m very blessed.”

Bridges is happily single whereas Willis is now in a relationship with F45 trainer Harika Vancuylenberg.
