Former child star Macaulay Culkin has opened up about his bizarre friendship with the late Michael Jackson, saying “it made sense” despite their huge age gap.

Culkin said the King of Pop reached out to him after Home Alone made him a massive star at the age of 10.

Jackson himself had achieved global fame at the age of 10 as lead singer of the Jackson Five.

“He reached out to me because a lot of things were happening, big and fast with me and I think he identified with that,” Culkin told Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside Of You podcast.

“At the end of the day, it’s almost easy to say it was weird or whatever but it wasn’t because it made sense,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we were friends.”

He added that the only reason people thought their friendship was unusual was because “he was the most famous person in the world”.

Culkin has previously admitted to sharing Jackson’s bed several times between the ages of 10 and 14.

While testifying at Jackson’s child molestation trial in 2005, Culkin vehemently denied that the star had molested him.

Culkin told Rosenbaum Jackson had empathy for him as a child star dealing with fame.

“I was a peerless person,” Culkin said. “Nobody else in my Catholic school had even this much idea of what I was going through and he was the kind of person who’d been through the exact same frickin thing and wanted to make sure I wasn’t alone.”

Culkin described Jackson as “sweet” and “funny,” adding that they would often prank call people.

“I know it’s a big deal to everyone else, but to me it was a normal friendship,” he said.

Culkin went on to describe his estranged father Kit Culkin — who he has not spoken to for 23 years — as a “mean b-----d” who “really shouldn’t have been a father, to be honest.”

“The word “proud” never came across his lips,” he told Rosenbaum.

“I do actually go out of my way, when it comes to my brothers and loved ones, when they do something really good or great, I go out of my way to say that I am proud of them, because that’s something I never really heard.”
