Inside Chrissy Teigen’s struggles with pregnancies, after suffering a miscarriage

Chrissy Teigan has shared the heartbreaking news of her miscarriage and it’s not the first time she’s opened up about her pregnancy struggles.

Chrissy Teigen revealed on Thursday she had tragically suffered a miscarriage.

The model shared her sad news on Twitter, saying she and husband John Legend had lost their son, Jack, halfway through her third pregnancy.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” the mum-of-two wrote to her fans.

Earlier this week, the star posted a series of worrying updates about her high-risk pregnancy revealing she was hospitalised for bleeding “constantly”.

The mother-of-two was on strict bed rest orders after revealing she had a “weak” placenta.

“I was always, always bleeding. The blood has been going on for a little less than a month. More than a period, definitely not spotting,” Teigen told her 31 million Instagram followers from a hospital bed.

“Every time I’d go to the bathroom, it would be blood. Even just laying there, it would be blood. Today the big difference was it was like if you’d turn a faucet on to low and leave it,” she said.

Teigen said the complication had been “hard to come to terms with” because she otherwise felt “really good” and loved being pregnant.

The 34-year-old star tried to explain the situation to fans “in the simplest of terms”: “My placenta is really weak. I feel really good, the baby is so healthy, growing stronger than Luna or Miles (Teigen’s two children). He moves a lot, much earlier than they ever did. He’s so strong, and I can’t wait for him,” she explained.

“But – he’s the strongest, coolest dude in the s**tiest house,” she continued. “His house is falling apart. He didn’t have the strongest chance at the very beginning. So all we’re doing now is trying to make sure he’s got a lot of fluid around him, and I’m resting as much as possible.”

At the time, little could be done other than wait and hope for the best.

“It’s hard because I’m in that weird in-between time of it being really dangerous to try anything. Basically if I can make it through the next few weeks, we can get through the danger zone. But we have to get through this first. It is scary. We’re on it, we’re trying everything we can.”

Teigen’s high-risk pregnancy comes after she “didn’t think” she could get pregnant naturally, with her two children, Luna, 4, and Miles, 2, being conceived through IVF treatments.

In a 2018 interview with People, Teigen explained the situation.

“They were sharing the same little petri dish together. It’s crazy,” she explained, saying how Miles and Luna were created at the same time.

“IVF was an amazing choice for us to be able to make. So hard, but we got two beautiful monsters out of it. I promise you, I never ever ever ever ever thought I could,” she continued.

Speaking to The Cut about her treatments in April 2018, she explained: “You hear stories about IVF working the first try. But you’ll hear a lot more stories about when it takes a few times. Ours didn’t work the first time, and it was devastating. You realise that a lot of it is luck, and you can’t blame things on yourself.

“It’s so easy to try to figure out what you might have done ‘wrong’ and do the opposite the next time. The first round I did of IVF, when it didn’t work, I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I was on my feet too much, and that’s why.’ You just look for anything to blame, especially yourself. I think hearing stories is just really important. You realise there’s no right way to do it, or right way to react.”

Teigen also opened up about the post-natal depression she experienced after giving birth to her daughter Luna in 2016.

“It was a sad existence,” she told Glamour magazine. “There were no highs. It was a flatline of life for a few months.

“You hear these horrific stories of people not seeing their child as theirs, or wanting to hurt them, and I never felt that way. That’s why I put off getting it checked as I hated myself, not my child.”

Prior to Teigen’s surprise third pregnancy, she had her breast implants removed. Little did she know that she was actually pregnant when she underwent that surgery.

The star explained on Twitter how “terrified” she was after she found out.

“I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative,” she said.

“A few weeks after surgery, I took a test. And for many years now, I’ve taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day. Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before.”

Thankfully, doctor’s assured Teigen that her breast implant removal surgery did not impact her pregnancy.

Since sharing the heartbreaking news today, Teigen has since left the hospital.
