Ben Affleck gets emotional as he recalls Adam Driver’s touching gesture
Ben Affleck got very emotional as he recalled a touching gesture from his co-star Adam Driver on the day of his son’s birthday.
Adam Driver might just be the best gift giver.
Ben Affleck appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and recalled when his The Last Duel co-star went above and beyond for Affleck’s 8-year-old son Samuel.
While Affleck, Matt Damon and Driver were filming their period piece (due out in January 2021), Affleck insisted he had to be back in Los Angeles for his son’s birthday.
“We had presents set up and everything was getting shipped and sent, and I was gonna pick it up and go to his surprise party,” Affleck, 47, told Kimmel.
The Way Back star then explained to the late-night host, for background context, that his son is obsessed with Star Wars to the point that he believes it’s real, despite knowing his own father stars in fictitious films.
“I told him, ‘I’m actually in this movie with Kylo Ren,’” Affleck recalled, referring to Driver’s villainous character in the latest Star Wars instalments. He noted that his son’s mind nearly exploded at the thought of his dad knowing Ren.
Getting back on track to the story surrounding his son’s birthday, a heartbroken Affleck revealed that the presents he had ordered for his son didn’t arrive on time, and he was going to have to show up to the party empty-handed.
“And then (my assistant) goes, ‘But, there is something. Adam heard it was your son’s birthday. So he called your assistant and got your address and sent some presents, and signed a card and a picture from Kylo Ren,’” Affleck said. “So I took those presents and went to see my son.
“I watched him open all the other presents, and then I said, ‘Sam, my presents didn’t get here on time. But I did get a present from somebody who really wanted to make sure you got a gift,’ and he was like, ‘Who?’ And I said, ‘Kylo Ren,’” Affleck said.
“He opened the presents and I played him the video, and it was an incredibly moving and powerful moment,” an emotional Affleck said. “Adam made me a hero to my kid, and I will never, ever, ever forget that.”
