Singer Coco Lee’s haunting final message to fans before death

Singer Coco Lee’s final audio message was shared on Sunday, just hours before she was placed in a coma after attempting to take her own life.

Singer Coco Lee’s last voice message to fans before her tragic death has been revealed.

The final audio message was posted on Sunday by a verified Weibo account for Lee’s Chinese fan club, on which the Hong Kong-born star thanked her fans for being a source of strength just hours before attempting to take her own life.

“Dear, I am Coco. I feel everyone’s love and support and you are my pillar of strength,’ she is heard saying in the recording, according to Taiwan News.

“I will keep striving. During this time, I hope you all are also healthy and happy. I miss everyone very much. I am working very hard. I am thinking of you all. I miss you all so much! Love you, love you.”

Lee – who was also recovering from major surgery on her leg and pelvis to fix a birth defect – then reportedly said the following in English: “Thank you so much for the gifts. Beautiful and very thoughtful. Love you guys.”

Sadly, just hours later, she would attempt suicide at her home. She was rushed to hospital and placed in a coma but she never recovered. She died yesterday, aged 48.

The audio has since gained 33.96 million listens, 337,000 ‘likes’ and 74,000 shares on the platform.

Lee’s elder sisters, Carol and Nancy, were the ones who shared the news of her death on Facebook.

“Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months,” the post read.

“Although, Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.”

Coco Lee rose to fame with hit songs in the late ‘90s and noughties.

Lee achieved success in 1998 when she sang the Mandarin version of the theme song Reflection from the Disney classic Mulan.

She also voiced the titular role for the Chinese version of the movie.

She hit the mainstream in 2000 with her breakout single Do You Want My Love, which was a Top 20 hit in Australia, and her follow-up single, Wherever You Go, was also climbed the charts.

Lee was also a trailblazer during her career – she was the first ever Chinese American to perform at the Oscars, singing the track A Love Before Time from Ang Lee’s 2001 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and she was also the first Chanel brand ambassador of Chinese descent for the Asia region.
