Olivia’s husband releases moving open letter to her
Olivia Newton-John’s grieving husband has today released a heartbreaking note addressed directly to his late wife.
Olivia Newton-John’s husband has spoken out about his late wife’s passing in a new statement published to her social media accounts today, describing the beloved star as a “healer”.
Newton-John died of cancer this week, aged 73, after first being diagnosed with the disease 30 years ago.
In a new note addressed directly to “Olivia,” her husband John Easterling wrote tenderly of his relationship with his late wife, who he wed in 2008.
“Our love for each other transcends our understanding. Every day we expressed our gratitude for this love that could be so deep, so real, so natural. We never had to ‘work’ on it. We were in awe of this great mystery and accepted the experience of our love as past, present and forever,” he wrote.
“At Olivia’s deepest essence she was a healer using her mediums of song, of words, of touch. She was the most courageous woman I’ve ever known. Her bandwidth for genuinely caring for people, for nature and all creatures almost eclipses what is humanely possible. It is only the grace of God that has allowed me to share the depth and passion of her being for so long. In her most difficult times, she always had the spirit, the humour, and the willpower to move things into the light.
“Even now as her soul soars, the pain and holes in my heart are healed with the joy of her love and the light that shines forward.
“Our family deeply appreciates the vast ocean of love and support that has come our way.”
Easterling’s new statement comes after he announced Newton-John’s death on Tuesday via her social media channels. In that initial statement, he wrote that she had “passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends”.
Newton-John’s death has sparked a global outpouring of grief and love for fans of the star, who had enjoyed an accomplished career across the entertainment industry since the early 1970s.
Celebrities including her Grease co-star John Travolta, Kylie Minogue, Mariah Carey, Delta Goodrem and dozens more have paid loving tribute to one of Australia’s greatest exports.
And in a heartbreaking new message from the family, Olivia’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi left an emotional voicemail with veteran entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins after he broke down while reporting news of her mother’s death on-air on Tuesday morning.
The voicemail was later played on-air with Lattanzi’s permission, and it gave some insight into how Olivia’s loved ones were coping with her death.
“I just want you to know she’s free now and out of pain and all the family is here together,” she said.
“She’s making the sun shine and the dogs are running around and smiling and the horses are galloping.
“I just want you to know that she’s free from pain now and she fought so hard and I was with her every step of the way.”
