Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancee Molly Hurwitz speaks out after his tragic death
Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancee Molly Hurwitz has said the late actor “caused pain like I’d never known” in a lengthy tribute.
Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, has spoken out following the news of the actor’s death on Saturday.
“He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented,” she wrote via Instagram Tuesday, alongside a sombre silhouette photo of Perry overlooking a city.
The Friends star was found dead from an apparent drowning in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home. He was 54.
Hurwitz, a 32-year-old literary manager who was in a relationship with Perry from 2018 to 2021, went on to describe the late actor as a “complicated” man.
“While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known,” she added.
“No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”
Hurwitz also reminisced about rewatching Friends with Perry ahead of the reunion special that premiered on Binge in 2021. The actor famously played Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom for 10 seasons.
“‘F**k, I was so good!!!…See what I did there???’” she recalled Perry saying.
“We rewound and studied scenes,” she continued. “Our respect and appreciation of humor [sic] is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”
“Matty, I feel relief that you are at peace. Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama(…fication),” she concluded.
Her statement comes after she was pictured for the first time since Perry was found dead.
Hurwitz looked downcast as she walked her dog through a Los Angeles park near her home and spoke sombrely with a group of friends.
The agent and talent manager wore black leggings and a black and white plaid flannel shirt knotted at her waist over a white tee, reports The Sun.
She hid her eyes behind dark sunglasses and a black hat as news of Perry’s death continued to sink in for the Friends star’s family and colleagues.
At one point the agent was seen crying.
Perry and Hurwitz began dating in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020 before calling off the relationship in June 2021.
At the time, Perry said: “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best.”
Hurwitz is a talent manager and producer at Zero Gravity Management based in Los Angeles and New York.
The pair met through friends, as they mix with the same people.
The Sun revealed their relationship in December 2019, as the pair enjoyed a romantic Christmas together.
On November 26, 2020 Matthew told People magazine that “I decided to get engaged.”
“Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
But sadly it wasn’t meant to be and on June 1, 2021 Matthew confirmed the news to People, sharing in a statement: “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best.”
In May 2021, it was reported that Hurwitz put their wedding on hold after he “flirted with other women” while they were on a break.
Weeks prior to their split, fans expressed their concern for Matthew when he appeared to slur his words and nodded off while filming the reunion special.
He sat down with the beloved cast of Friends for a “three question” interview with People in 2021, which had the group reminisce about their years as friends and co-stars.
However, fans noticed that the Canadian actor was not responding to questions with his normal sharp wit and appeared quiet and distracted.
Perry was found dead in his jacuzzi on Saturday, where he is believed to have drowned.
Sources from law enforcement originally disclosed that they were called to the residents for a cardiac arrest.
Police initially said that no drugs were found at the scene and no foul play was suspected.
