Matthew Perry’s 911 audio call released following tragic death
The 911 dispatch call made to authorities after the Friends star was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his LA home has been released.
The 911 dispatch call made to authorities after Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home has been released.
The audio obtained by TMZ gives insight into star’s cause of death, with the call being made to authorities around 4pm local time on Saturday, reportedly by the Friends star’s assistant.
Much of the 16-second clip has been beeped out, but references to a “drowning” at the exclusive Pacific Palisades neighbourhood were clear.
“Agent 23. Rescue 23. EMS 9 on the radio. In response to the drowning,” a man says in the audio as first responders were sent to Perry’s home.
“Rescue 23” is likely a reference to the local fire station.
Emergency services rushed to Perry’s home and reportedly found the star lifeless in his jacuzzi. Cops did not suspect any foul play and began water rescue protocol, but were unsuccessful at saving the actor’s life.
Pictures from the scene have since been released by various media outlets, which appear to show a white police tent pitched next to Perry’s jacuzzi.
At the time, it was reported there were no illegal drugs found at the scene, but later TMZ said several prescription drugs were discovered on the property.
Earlier that afternoon, Perry had been out playing pickleball with friends. When the actor got home, he sent his assistant to run an errand.
After two hours, when his assistant returned to the house, he found Perry unresponsive in the hot tub.
Los Angeles Police Captain Scot Williams told the LA Times the cause of death, which will be determined by the LA county coroner’s office, “may not be known for some time”.
