Liz Hurley reveals she mended things with her son Damien’s father Steve Bing before he died

For the first time since her ex Steve Bing took his life, the actress has spoken about her son’s father and how they mended things before he died.

Liz Hurley has opened up for the first time about death of her former partner Steve Bing, and how they mended their relationship before he died.

The pair dated for 18 months, but when Hurley fell pregnant with Steve’s son Damien, the relationship turned sour, with the millionaire film producer accusing her of being unfaithful and claiming the child was not his. A DNA test later proved that Bing was the father, however for years the two refused to talk about their rift.

Then in June this year, Bing took his own life at the age of 55.

Speaking to You magazine, Hurley talked about how they had mended things not long before Bing’s death, saying it had been “great to connect again”.

“We hadn’t been friends for a very long time, but about a year ago he came back into our lives,” the actress said.

Talking about his death, she said, “It’s very sad … just terrible. Horrific that it happened but there is some comfort to know we had made up and there was no bad feeling.”

Hurley, 55, also revealed that her now 18-year-old son Damien had been receiving A-level grades in school, but due to COVID meant that “the misery of no graduation and not saying goodbye to your friends is just awful”.

Her son has kicked off his own modelling career, and has become more independent, something that Hurley has had to get used to.

“I torture him by making him text me and check in all the time. There’s a lot of eye-rolling from his end. It’s just keeping a clear head and finding a balance, isn’t it? Stepping back all the time.”

But stepping back wasn’t easy for the actress, whose son bears a striking resemblance to her.

“We’re very close. Thank goodness, because it’s really just the two of us,” said Hurley, who is now single after relationships with Hugh Grant, Bing, textiles heir Arun Nayar and cricketer Shane Warne.

“We get most of the same things. Of course, he’s left me streets behind because he’s young and knows everything, but otherwise we have the same sensibility, which is great.”

The pair spent lockdown together in Hurley’s $12.6 million mansion in Herefordshire, however Damien has now moved.

“I feel fine about it,’ she said. “A couple of weeks ago he went to New York by himself because he had a job. He used to fly to see me on location – he was an unaccompanied minor aged nine – so he’s done long-haul flights by himself. I feel it’s the right time. There is going to be a big difference, for sure, but it is the natural order and the way of the world, so it’s just the way it is.”

Hurley and Bing started dating in the year 2000. When she became pregnant and he denied being the father, she released a statement.

“I loved Stephen enormously during the 18 months we were together. I was completely loyal and faithful to him throughout this time as, indeed, he assured me he was to me.”

After the DNA test proved Bing was Damian’s father, Hurley turned down his offer to pay $180,000 a year into a trust fund, saying the relationship had never been about money.

Steve Bing had apparently never met his son, but rang Elizabeth on the day Damian turned 18 in April, and wrote a goodbye letter to him before taking his own life.

“I’m actually very grateful that we had the chance to reconnect. There were no hard feelings left. In fact, there were a lot of positive feelings left. But it was a terrible thing to happen,” Hurley told the publication.
