“Whatever you need, I’ll do it”: Kirstie Alley made an appeal to fans in a video posted to social media just three months before her death.

Hollywood actress Kirstie Alley made her final public appearance three months before her death, appearing in a video message on her social media channels to tell fans she’d joined the celebrity video platform Cameo.

Alley’s family today announced that the Cheers and Look Who’s Talking actress, 71, had died following a short, private battle with cancer.

Alley appeared to be in good spirits in a video posted to her Instagram and Twitter accounts on September 9, in what would be the last time fans would see her alive.

“A bunch of you have been asking to do these greetings, and I always do what you ask me to,” Alley told her followers. “If you want something funny or something sincere … ‘Hi, I love you,’ or ‘Merry Christmas,’ or ‘I want a divorce’ … Whatever you need, I’ll do it.”

Cameo is a platform that allows fans to pay a fee – sometimes several hundred dollars – for a celebrity to record them a personalised video greeting.

Alley’s Cameo page has been taken offline, and it appears she didn’t get to record too many before her health issues took precedence – but one fan did post the 90-second Cameo message she’d received from Alley on TikTok on September 25.

Alley’s excursion into Cameo came after the star’s acting work dried up in recent years: Her most recent film was released in 2015, while her latest TV appearance was competing as the ‘Baby Mammoth’ on this year’s season of The Masked Singer US.

Alley has been remembered as an “incredible, fierce and loving mother” in a statement posted from her official Twitter and Instagram accounts today.

Alley appeared on the US Masked Singer in April.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an ever more amazing mother and grandmother,” her daughter Lillie Parker and son True wrote.

Alley’s close friend and former co-star John Travolta, who she starred alongside in the Look Who’s Talking franchise, was one of the first stars to publicly pay tribute.

“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I know we will see each other again.”
