Chadwick Boseman appeared to hint at cancer battle in resurfaced interview

Chadwick Boseman seemed to allude to his secret cancer battle in a 2017 interview that’s resurfaced in the wake of his death.

Chadwick Boseman seemingly alluded to his cancer battle in a 2017 interview, which resurfaced Saturday in the wake of the Black Panther star’s death at the age of 43.

Matthew Jacobs of the Huffington Post tweeted a snippet of an interview he had done with Boseman three years prior, in which they discussed the actor’s physical transformation between roles as Thurgood Marshall in Marshall and T’Challa in Black Panther.

“You came off of one Black Panther project, did Marshall and then made another Black Panther movie. Did you bulk up, slim down and then bulk up again,” Jacobs asked, to which Boseman replied, “(Nods his head, looking exhausted) Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

“You’ve been through the wringer,” the reporter said.

“Oh, you don’t even know (laughs),” Boseman responded. “You have no idea. One day I’ll live to tell the story.”

On Saturday, Boseman’s representatives confirmed he had passed away following a private four-year battle with colon cancer. Boseman died in his home, where he was surrounded by loved ones, including wife Taylor Simone Ledward, who he quietly married.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” the statement read. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, and August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”

Boseman was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016. It later progressed to stage four.

Countless tributes to Boseman have since poured in, with Robert Downey Jr and former president Barack Obama among those sharing heartfelt messages.
