Australian Big Brother contestant Monica Sirianni, 37, dies in bar

An Australian-born contestant of the Big Brother reality TV franchise suddenly collapsed in a bar in Italy and died.

An Australian-born Big Brother contestant has died during a night out at a bar in Italy.

Monica Sirianni, from Sydney, was just 37 years old.

She had starred on the Italian version of reality show Big Brother between 2011 and 2012.

Ms Sirianni was out with friends on May 5 in Soveria Mannelli, in the Calabria region of southern Italy, when she fell ill, according to Italian newspaper La Republicca.

It’s been reported that the English teacher collapsed to the ground in a club in the small town.

Ms Sirianni was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

No cause of death has been announced but its thought doctors have not ruled out a heart condition.

Her body will repatriated to Australia.

Ms Sirianni’s parents emigrated from Italy to Australia. Their daughter returned to Italy initially living in the north of the country.

At the age of 25 she appeared on the top rating reality show.

“Monica had conquered the public with her love story with another competitor, Fabrizio Conti,” wrote La Republicca in a tribute.

That relationship continued, albeit briefly, after the show.

Following her stint on Big Brother Italy, Ms Sirianni pursued a career in teaching.

“I wanted to remember this beautiful girl Monica Sirianni, former competitor of Big Brother and now a teacher,” said one person on social media after her death was announced.

“I’m very sorry! A hug to the family,” said another.
