Kirin J Callinan charged over ARIA flashing

A DARING Aussie artist who gave into calls to lift his kilt on the red carpet is paying the price, due to face court over the awards show incident.

AUSTRALIAN musician Kirin J Callinan will be heading to court after he lifted his kilt and flashed photographers on the ARIA red carpet.

The 31-year-old singer was egged on to lift his kilt at the awards show in November last year.

And when he did, everyone, including photographers and video operators, copped an eyeful at Star Casino in Sydney.

He has subsequently been charged with wilful and obscene exposure near a public place.

The pop artist was issued with a court attendance notice on December 8 and is due to face court next month.

Neil Finn defended Callinan on Twitter on February 2 after it was revealed he’d been dumped from the Laneway Festival because of the ARIA incident.

Finn posted a video of the flashing and then supported the 31-year-old in subsequent tweets.

Callinan’s axing from the Laneway line-up followed a request for his removal by Brisbane rapper Sian Vandermuelen, who performs under the name Miss Blanks.

Callinan has not publicly commented on the flashing incident, but last week posted a lengthy statement to Instagram defending Miss Blanks and expressing his disappointment over the Laneway Festival decision.

“To say I”m a wee bit disappointed that I will not also be performing for every dusty, sexy, sunburnt woman & man & non-binary human ‘round this beaut n dusty sunburnt land is the understatement of the year,” he wrote.

“But more important than some rocking concert, more relevant than resentment or regrets, is respect — for each & every one of us.”

Callinan is due to face Downing Centre Local Court on February 21.
