NOVA’s Fitzy and Wippa have described Mel Gibson as “a bit mad” after witnessing him throw an epic tantrum following their interview.

The hosts, broadcasting out of Los Angeles, revealed on air during Tuesday’s show exactly what happened after they spoke with Gibson and the other stars of new comedy Daddy’s Home 2.

According to them, they spotted the Australian actor when he was trying to leave the establishment — and he was not happy with staff.

“He’s a bit mad in person, isn’t he?” Wippa asked Fitzy on air, describing the awkward moment Gibson started blowing up.

“He was trying to get his car out of valet, and when it hadn’t arrived after a couple of minutes, he was yelling in front of everyone: ‘Where’s my Tesla?!’”

Gibson’s infamous temper has been very well-documented throughout his career. In 2006, the actor was arrested for drink-driving and made anti-Semitic remarks to the arresting officer which were all caught on tape. He apologised but Hollywood quickly began to shun him and his film Apocalypto during the subsequent award season.

In the years that followed Gibson was surrounded by controversy that included a headline-making interview during which he slammed a reporter who asked him about the 2006 incident and a recorded profane rant against his ex, Oksana Grigorieva.

(Years later, while on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Gibson admitted he’d love the opportunity to tell his younger self to “shut the f**k up.”)

During the Fitzy and Wippa interview, Gibson also confirmed rumours there are ongoing discussions about a fifth Lethal Weapon movie.

“There’s a hint of it — I went to see [Danny] Glover the other night in a play with the [Lethal Weapon] director Richard Donner, and we had a good laugh about this. Everyone’s in good form — it could happen,” he admitted.

The action comedy franchise was a major hit for Warner Bros. when it first launched in 1987, and the four instalments have collectively raked in $1.24 billion worldwide.

The last one, Lethal Weapon 4, was released in 1998.
