Carrie Fisher dies at 60: Celebrities grieve over Star Wars star’s tragic death

ACTRESS Debbie Reynolds has spoken out about daughter Carrie Fisher’s death, as Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill paid tribute.

CARRIE Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds has broken her silence over the actress’s tragic death, as the Star Wars icon’s co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford led the tributes.

Fisher, 60, died on Tuesday morning after suffering what was described as a massive heart attack on Friday while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

“Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter,” Reynolds, the star of 1952 classic Singin’ In the Rain, shared on Facebook.

“I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother.”

Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker (Fisher's on-screen brother) in the Star Wars franchise, tweeted: “No words #Devastated,”

Ford, who played Han Solo and had a whirlwind romance with Fisher during filming, said in a statement to E!: “Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely.”

Fisher’s death comes after pop icon George Michael was found dead at his Oxfordshire home on Christmas Day. He was 53.

Other Star Wars stars tweeted their heartbreak at the passing of their co-star, who played Princess Leia.

“I’m deeply saddened at the news of Carrie’s passing. She was a dear friend, whom I greatly respected and admired. The force is dark today!” Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando Calrissian, he tweeted.

Anthony Daniels, who starred as CP30, wrote: “I thought I had got what I wanted under the tree. I didn’t. In spite of so many thoughts and prayers from so many. I am very, very sad.”

Fisher was best known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, starring alongside Hamill and Harrison Ford.

She revealed in her recent memoir, The Princess Diarist, she and Ford had a secret love affair on the London set of the 1977 blockbuster classic when she was just 19.

Her turn as a bikini-clad princess helped catapult her into the limelight. But the fame came at a personal price — she was dogged by failed relationships, mental health issues, and drug and alcohol abuse.

In a statement released behalf of Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, spokesman Simon Halls said: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning.

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

CELEBRITIES SHARE TRIBUTES FOR FISHER

Other celebrities have shared their sadness at the passing of one of the world’s most beloved stars.

“I’m deeply saddened to learn of the death of Carrie Fisher. I will miss our banterings. A wonderful talent & light has been extinguished,” Star Trek actor William Shatner tweeted.

“My heart goes out to Debbie Reynolds on the death of Carrie her talented daughter. There have been too many deaths this year,” Joan Collins tweeted.

Other celebrities who shared tributes online included Anna Kendrick, Stephen Fry, Mia Farrow and Whoopi Goldberg.

A heartbreaking tweet was also sent out from the account of Fisher’s much-loved French bulldog, Gary.

‘I WANT IT REPORTED I DROWNED IN MOONLIGHT’

In her 2008 memoir Wishful Drinking, Fisher included a witty account of the time Star Wars director George Lucas told her she couldn’t wear underwear under her dress.
