Nine’s golden boy Ben Fordham has revealed he has taken up the side hustle of being an Uber driver.

A segment on his successful 2GB radio show with financial commentator Peter Switzer took a surprising turn when the pair were discussing the latest data from The Australian Bureau of Statistics, which found almost a million Australians worked multiple jobs in March.

Fordham, 46, who is rumoured to be paid a generous salary of $1.5 million at Nine, revealed he had also been inspired to pull double duty.

Fordham said he would get a “side hustle” during the pandemic and now, in the middle of the cost of living crisis, he’d finally taken the plunge.

“I said I was going to become an Uber driver … guess what I’ve done this week?” he teased Switzer.

Fordham happily shared that this week he’d finally gotten certified and completed his first Uber driver trip.

What next? Is Hughesy going to start stacking shelves at Woolies? Perhaps Erin Molan could get a gig at Priceline?

Well, probably not, but Fordham shared that he was serious about Ubering around town.

“I’ve taken my first passenger” he said.

The radio host spilled all the details, saying his passenger’s name was “Wen” and he picked her up near the 2GB studios before dropping her off at work.

Fordham described his first passenger as a “lovely lady”. He scored a five-star rating and a $3 tip for his troubles.

He even introduced her to Aussie star Kate Ritchie, who joked that she thought Fordham had “good ratings” when she spotted him in the car.

Fordham said that he loved the experience and called it “so good” and a great way to “kill” an hour and “make a bit of money.”

Fordham sold his terrace in Redfern for an undisclosed amount rumoured to be north of $3 million in 2020.

He now lives in Sydney’s affluent lower north shore in a five-bedroom house that he bought for $4.5 million, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Fordham doesn’t just have good radio ratings — he also has a good Uber driver rating.
