Ariana Grande shocks fans as she reveals her 'real' voice

Ariana Grande has left fans baffled after she appeared to reveal her ‘real’ voice mid-interview before quickly switching back to one she puts on.

In a very Paris Hilton-esque move, the singer was seen naturally slipping into her deeper register while chatting on a podcast interview with Penn Badgely’s Podcrushed.

As she laughed and joked, the pop star sounded noticeably deeper than usual.

But then a look appeared to flash across her face before she audibly altered the pitch of her voice and fell back into a much higher, softer tone reminiscent of old Hollywood.

Fans rushed to comment and share their surprise, with one replying to a viral clip on Twitter, saying: “She’s really the Paris Hilton of the music industry cause most people don’t know that this deep voice is her real voice.”

“It’s like she’s using her customer service voice this is so bizarre,” laughed another, with a third commenting: “What is going on this is so cringe!”

“I really want to know what her real voice is bc I’m missing the old one,” complained another.

As the footage circulated on social media, Grande herself chimed in with an explanation, writing under one viral TikTok of the clip that it is a “habit” and that she changes her vocal placement “often depending on how much singing I’m doing.

I’ve always done this BYE,” she wrote.

That squares with what some fans had guessed, that it’s likely Ariana is slipping back into the voice she’s been using for her role as Glinda in Wicked while it’s been being filmed for the last two years.

“I know she can’t wait for Wicked to drop so she can stop talking like Glinda she sick of doing that voice,” suggested a fan, with another teasing: “She went to the Christian Bale of method acting.”

In preparation of her new film, Grande hit pause on releasing a new album for the role which she calls the performance of her lifetime.

“Every piece of me, every minute, every ounce of my heart, my time, my everything that I can give it... I am spending all my time with Glinda,” she previously said on her R.E.M. Beauty YouTube channel. “So my hands are quite full.”

“I know the material like the back of my hand, but I still have so much to learn,” she added of her role. “I went pretty hard getting ready.”

Wicked: Part One will be released in November 2024, while Part Two will be released a year later.
