Amy Schumer: ‘I lost my virginity while I was asleep’

AMY Schumer has opened up about being raped by her former boyfriend while she was asleep, and how she felt she “wanted to comfort him” afterwards.

AMY Schumer has opened up to Oprah Winfrey about her experience with “grey-area rape” with a former boyfriend.

“You think when that happens you say, ‘OK, well, this isn’t someone I want to see rotting in a jail cell, but what he did to me was wrong,’” the I Feel Pretty star said on SuperSoul Conversations.

“I didn’t consent, and for me, I lost my virginity while I was asleep and that’s not OK.”

The 36-year-old has previously spoken about her experience in her stand-up routine with the hopes of “trying to make people laugh while they learned.” “If she’s asleep, that’s a no,” Schumer said in a stand-up show.

Because the alleged assault was perpetrated by a boyfriend, she didn’t know how to navigate her conflicted feelings.

“The first thing he said was, ‘I thought you knew,’” she recalled. “I didn’t say anything yet … He was my boyfriend. I loved him. I had to comfort him.

“I also felt really angry. It was just a feeling I had. I felt really angry at him, and it’s a rage that has stayed with me,” she continued. “I don’t think you lose that. As women, we’re really trained not to get angry because that makes people dismiss you right away … but I felt I wanted to comfort him because he felt so bad and he was so worried, just tried to push my anger down.”

Schumer and her boyfriend stayed together and eventually had consensual sex, she said.

“I think nine times out of 10, people’s first reaction is to doubt the woman,” the Trainwreck star said. “It’s just something men and women do.”
