‘Magical’ Robin Williams clip sparks calls for movie on late actor
A virtually unknown actor has sparked calls for him to star in a future Robin Williams biopic, after he uploaded a “truly remarkable” video.
A virtually unknown US actor has gone viral for his striking portrayal of Robin Williams in a “magical” new video.
Jamie Costa, 31, who is perhaps best known for his various celebrity impressions, uploaded a five-minute clip on YouTube titled ‘ROBIN test footage scene’.
The uncanny impression left such a mark on viewers that they are calling for Costa to star in a future biopic about the late actor.
The clip features Costa as Williams on the set of the ABC sitcom Mork and Mindy, of which Williams starred in from 1978 to 1982.
The scene sees Williams’ co-star Pam Dawber interrupt him in his trailer as he is practising his lines, where she breaks the news of fellow comedian John Belushi’s death.
Costa has been hailed for his incredible likeness to Williams, from his voice to his outlandish mannerisms.
Viewers took to Twitter to declare the “remarkable” clip gave them “goosebumps”.
I don't often get goosebumps from something truly uncanny, but this is quite magical footage - even when he just says 'no' with sadness, the resemblance is remarkable. If a biopic does get made with Jamie Costa as Robin Williams, get a great script & director to do it justice? ð¤ pic.twitter.com/WMMvspNiNR

Jamie Costa encapsulates the essence of Robin Williams so perfectly that this "fan footage" for a proposed biopic is a clear sign this truly needs to happen.https://t.co/EI14YqRhvf
There is currently no planned biopic for Williams, who died in 2014.
Regarded as one of the best comedians of all time, Williams managed to also make a name for himself in serious drama roles and was nominated for four Academy Awards.
He won Best Supporting Actor for the 1997 film, Good Will Hunting, which made stars of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Williams was plagued by ill health and depression in the years prior to his shock death, in which he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
He died by suicide in August 2014.
His death was felt deeply around the world, with then US president Barack Obama releasing a statement after the news.
“Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between … He arrived in our lives as an alien — but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most — from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalised on our own streets.”
