Ryan Reynolds’ exercise secrets revealed
THE 39-year-old star has opened to up Men’s Health magazine about what he did to get in such incredible shape for his last movie, Deadpool.
RYAN Reynolds has revealed how he got in such incredible shape for Deadpool.
In the latest edition of Men’s Health (out tomorrow), the 39-year-old actor said he trained for seven months in order to achieve his superhero physique.
“We tried to be functionally fit,” Reynolds said.
“It’s easy to get aesthetically fit, but you’re not necessarily in great shape. You look like an Olympian but you can’t perform like one.”
So Reynolds did a variety of workouts including gymnastics, hiking and mountain biking.
But his training schedule was interrupted when he welcomed his first daughter, James, with his wife Blake Lively in December 2014.
“I was sleep-deprived for sure,” he said to Men’s Health.
“But you can’t really use that as an excuse. I took breaks — obviously when James was being born I wasn’t running out to a gym or anything like that. But afterwards I would find myself training on two hours’ sleep. It was kind of a psychological thing. I just needed to get it done.”
He even worked out with his newborn daughter.
“In a weird way, it’s a great workout because you’re adding 10kg to your body weight,” Reynolds said.
The Canadian-born actor not only had a trainer to motivate him but he also made the occasional phone call to his mate, Hugh Jackman.
“He loves sharing information, he could be a world-class trainer,” Reynolds said about the Aussie star.
