Hamish and Andy named GQ magazine's Men of the Year for 2013
GQ magazine's newest Man of the Year has been named, beating nine other Aussie blokes to take out this year's coveted title. But who landed the gong?
HAMISH and Andy have been named as GQ Australia's Men of the Year for 2013.
The comedy duo was presented with the magazine's highest honour at the annual awards ceremony tonight, beating out big Aussie male personalities Mark Webber, Matt Le Nevez, Liam Hemsworth, Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce, Baz Luhrmann, Adam Scott, and even Hugh Jackman.
"The first award we won together was the Barry McIver award," Andy said.
"My mum made it for us, at our first Melbourne Comedy Festival. The official one you can win is the Barry Award, named after Barry Humphries. That's for the best of the best. We were not the best of the best. So Mum went to the trophy shop and made us an award," Hamish joked.
GQ Australia editor Ceri David presented the award to the pair.
"The GQ Men of the Year Awards celebrate extraordinary men who embody what it is to be a true gentleman. Hamish and Andy have proven themselves to be smart, creative, tenacious and funny. They aren't afraid to take risks in order to make their mark and, most of all, they never forget to enjoy life. They embrace the spirit of the successful Australian man of today," she said.
Aussie model Jess Hart was announced as this year's GQ Woman of the Year.
"We were also delighted to announce our 2013 GQ Woman of the Year, model Jessica Hart, who has had her biggest year to date," David added.
"I feel humbled - it's so nice to be recognised at home," Hart, 27, said.
The GQ Men of the Year Awards celebrates the country's finest actors, comedians, sportsmen, artists, rock stars, fashion designers and creative visionaries recognising the diverse and inspirational talents amongst them and honouring their contribution to Australia's cultural landscape.
