THE Australian edition of Madison is the latest magazine to fall under the axe of Bauer Media.

The German company, who acquired ACP magazines in October last year, confirmed the women's mag will cease publication after the June 2013 issue.

Grazia axed to make way for Elle

The last issue will be on-sale May 15 and the brand's website, madisonmagazine.com.au, will also be decommissioned on June 18.

Bauer Media CEO Matthew Stanton said in a statement: “The decision to close a title is never easy but after recent and lengthy discussions with our joint venture partner, Hearst Magazines International, the conclusion was sadly drawn that for Madison to continue was no longer a commercially viable option.

“I would like to express my respect for the Madison team for the way in which they continued to deliver a wonderful product while rumours of closure swirled around them. They should be proud of their professional and committed effort.”

The news comes after the closure of Grazia magazine last month, with many speculating that poor circulation figures and the imminent launch of new magazine, Elle, are said to be behind Bauer's decision to axe both titles.

Madison Editor, Lizzie Renkert posted the following on Facebook shortly after the announcement: "It's a very sad day for us at madison. It was decided this morning that the June issue will be our last. I would like to thank my amazing, talented, hard-working team for being an inspiration to work with every day. And thankyou to our readers for your support over the past 8 years - we have loved creating for and hearing from all of you.
