Death in Brunswick writer Boyd Oxlade dies of cancer

AUSTRALIAN Boyd Oxlade - the grave digger turned acclaimed writer for his cult hit Death in Brunswick - has lost his fight against cancer.

AUSTRALIAN writer Boyd Oxlade has died at the age of 70.

The novelist lost his fight against cancer on Friday.

No further details about his death have been released.

Oxlade spent several years working as a grave digger before writing his 1987 novel Death in Brunswick, which became a cult hit in Australia.

He also penned the screenplay for the 1990 film adaptation, which starred Sam Neill as a cook who tries to dispose of the body of a man he has accidentally killed.

Oxlade wrote several other books and screenplays with less success, and was working on a new novel at the time of his death.
