The Project host and television personality Lisa Wilkinson is quietly working on a tell-all autobiography that will detail her turbulent relationship with Nine’s Karl Stefanovic as well as her divorce from the network.

The Australian revealed Wilkinson is using any additional downtime she has during the coronavirus pandemic to work on the new book that will feature an account of her time at the Nine Network before her move to Channel 10 in 2017.

Her husband of 27 years, Peter FitzSimons also makes an appearance.

One of the memoirs will focus on her time as one of Kerry Packer’s most celebrated magazine editors during the 1980s and 1990s.

She began her career at Dolly magazine and was promoted to editor at just 21 years old.

After four years, she was appointed editor of the magazine Cleo and went on to become international editor-in-chief.

However, it’s her very public break-up with Nine and the Today show that will be the most anticipated memoir.

The memoir is expected to launch next year.

“We know her book is going to be a standout success,” publisher Catherine Milne said in a statement provided to NCA NewsWire.

“Lisa has been one of Australia’s leading journalists for many years – sharing and shaping important national conversations. Australians of all ages love and respect her warmth, empathy, humour, intelligence, integrity – and fighting spirit.”

Wilkinson left Nine in 2017, reportedly because she couldn’t negotiate a $2 million salary and was being paid less than co-host Stefanovic.

At the time Nine Entertainment’s Hugh Marks argued Stefanovic was paid more because he had more responsibilities at the network and Wilkinson had multiple commercial agreements outside Nine.

“She has a number of commercial rights with other parties. Her arrangement with the Huffington Post restricts our ability to engage with her digitally – we are restricted from engaging with her also on social media,” he said.

Wilkinson is the former editor-at-large of the Huffington Post.

Later that year she declared her biggest crime was “knowing my value”.

“When you’re a woman, sometimes people don’t like it,” Wilkinson said.

She will also discuss her relationship with Stefanovic, who she hasn’t seen since 2017.

Earlier this year she told Stellar Magazine the “timing just hasn’t worked”.
