Book review: The Girl Who Fell From The Sky

SIMON Mawers' latest work tells a story that I expected would tear at my heart.

SIMON Mawers' latest work tells a story that I expected would tear at my heart.

That's because it was inspired by the real-life courageous exploits of the secretive Special Operations Executive during World War II.

Mawers' character Marion Sutro is based on SOE's wartime heroes Nancy Wake and Violette Szabo. With that knowledge, he produced a stirring but not edge-of-your-seat adventure.

The problem is the characters, especially Sutro, lack credibility. In short, Mawers' ctitious reection of the true story of incredible women brought heartburn rather than a tearing of my heartstrings.
