Book review: An Incredible Race Of People
MUCH like the electorate Bob Katter represents in North Queensland, this tome covers a vast array of ground.
MUCH like the electorate Bob Katter represents in North Queensland, this tome covers a vast array of ground.
And much like his outback upbringing with plenty of campfire sessions, he can tell a good yarn littered with political and life anecdotes, facts, bush lore and his brand of common sense and ideals.
These ideals led him to run as an independent in the 2001 federal election - he was formerly a state member for the National Party but became disenchanted with their economic rationalist approach.
Katter pulls no punches in his take on Australian history, including the harsh treatment of Aborigines and convicts, gold rushes, the role of unions, the views of "Red Ted" Theodore, tariffs, wars, politics and infrastructure projects.
He has forthright views and a broad knowledge on a wide spectrum of issues affecting Australia. It's a good yarn and an easy read.
