20 FEET From Stardom singer Darlene Love blew everyone away when she took to the stage to accept the film’s Best Documentary award.

Darlene Love sings thanks at Oscars

SINGER Darlene Love showed how you get a standing ovation at the Academy Awards, busting out a powerhouse rendition of a song when she took to the stage.

Love is one of the subjects of the film 20 Feet From Stardom, which took out the award for Best Documentary. The film tells the story of a handful of American singers who never reached the heights of stardom, despite tremendous talent. Love has been a working singer since the 1960s, but never became a household name like contemporaries such as Patti Labelle or Aretha Franklin.

Taking to the stage with the 20 Feet From Stardom film makers, Love wasn’t going to let her big moment go. After the film makers said their thank yous, she stepped behind the microphone to belt out an incredible rendition of the traditional gospel song His Eye Is On The Sparrow.

Love earned herself a standing ovation for the surprise song — perhaps 2014 might be the most successful year yet for the 72-year-old musical veteran.
