Robert Irwin shared some heartwarming words about his relationship at last night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards in association with BOSS.

Irwin, who hit the red carpet before going on to win GQ’s Social Force of the Year award, opened up about his personal life and the impact that his partner, Rorie Buckey, has had on him since they met.

He told news.com.au that while his life is “awesome” at the moment, there’s one person in particular who helps make things “that much sweeter”.

“I think life is awesome for me every single second of every day,” said the TV star. “But when love is part of life, every single thing is so much sweeter, so much nicer, and you take that time to enjoy every single moment. We are extremely happy.”

Irwin, who recently celebrated his 20th birthday, went to share how he celebrated the big day and how he feels about no longer being a teenager.

“I’ve been lavished with gifts,” gushed the wildlife warrior. “It was a lovely day spent with the entire fam. I feel very spoiled, very lucky, entering a new decade is a weird feeling. Being a teenager for these last nine years. It’s just strange waking up at 20, I’m so excited but I’m thinking like ‘Are my joints going to start going?’ I don’t know this is weird, but I like it it’s cool.”

Later on in the night, Irwin took to the stage to accept an award which he decided to dedicate to both his beloved parents while sharing his sadness that his father, Steve, couldn’t be there to celebrate with him.

“I wish my whole family could be here,” said Irwin. “In my life, I’ve come to realise the most important thing is legacy. My life has been shaped around continuing the legacy around the greatest wildlife warrior and one of the greatest men to ever bless the planet, my father Steve. To see the way his legacy carries on today is so special, but also creating my own legacy is something I value so much.”

“After he passed, once again, it was one person who kept all that going: my mum,” he continued. “She is a force of nature, so I would like to dedicate this to the two greatest social forces I know, my mum and my dad.”
