Rebel Wilson’s X-rated joke cut from BAFTAs broadcast

Rebel Wilson certainly kept the censors busy during this year’s BAFTAs – and there was one particularly explicit joke that they were forced to cut.

Celebrities dazzle on the BAFTAs red carpet

Rebel Wilson made at least one X-rated gag during her stint as host of the BAFTAs that never made it to TV screens.

According to The Sun, the Australian actress, 42, made a joke about Daniel Craig’s 007 role that was heard by the audience at the EE British Academy Film Awards, in London’s Royal Albert Hall, but cut from the BBC broadcast.

Wilson reportedly showed off a fake tattoo on her leg of Craig’s face with the numbers “007” printed above it, and said: “It looks like the word LOO – but I know which I would rather sit on.”

Wilson went on to poke fun at the endless speculation surrounding who would be the new James Bond – one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood.

“Now I know there’s been a lot of speculation about who’s going to be the next James Bond, and I know there might be some people in the audience tonight hoping that it might be them,” Wilson said, before the camera flashed to Avengers star Sebastian Stan and Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya.

“But fellas, hold on to your martinis, because (Bond producers) the Broccolis have let me announce it, here and now. This is a scoop, OK,” she told the audience.

“I’m proud to announce that the new James Bond … will be me.”

Earlier in the evening, Wilson opened the show with a crude joke about her home country.

“You guys might be like, why is Rebel Wilson hosting the BAFTAs, isn’t she Australian?” she said.

“Yes, I come from the bush. If you think about it, don’t we all?”

She also sent a strong message to Russian President Vladimir Putin amid his government’s invasion of Ukraine, with a gesture that needed to be pixelated by producers before it aired.

Introducing Emilia Jones, the star of CODA, a film about a child of deaf adults, Wilson explained there were two interpreters on stage, one for American sign language and one for English.

The Pitch Perfect star then raised her middle finger, and joked: “Luckily, though, in all sign languages, this is the gesture for Putin.”

The gag elicited plenty of laughs from the crowd, with many attendees showing their support for Ukraine on the red carpet beforehand with pins displaying their national flag.

At another point, Wilson claimed that, as host, she’d been given a list of people who’d “s****ed their way to the nomination”.

“Not who you’d expect. Lots of visual effects guys,” she joked.

The BAFTAs airs on Foxtel’s UKTV tonight at 8.30pm AEDT.
