Viewers rip into Nat Barr’s awkward Channel 7 Oscars red carpet coverage
Channel 7 viewers have flocked to Twitter to comment on Nat Barr’s Oscars red carpet coverage, with some calling it “the funniest thing on TV”.
Sunrise star Nat Barr’s Oscars red carpet coverage provided endless entertainment for her colleagues and those watching along at home — but not in the way you’d expect.
The red carpet rookie looked visibly stressed as she braved the star-studded event, waving a packet of Tim Tams around and nervously playing with her hair as she tried to grab the attention of the megastars walking by.
Barr copped it on the chin and made light of the tricky task, making for an eye-opening glimpse behind the curtain of what it’s really like at the film industry’s night of nights.

While Barr did grab sought-after interviews with Nicole Kidman, Tiffany Haddish, Billie Eilish, Kirsten Dunst, Kevin Costner and Jesse Plemons, she said others “didn’t care” and would walk straight past.
“One thing I’m learning as an Oscars red carpet first timer is that some people stop for you, some people really couldn’t care less, so I’m riding off the coat-tails of … shall we say two more experienced people,” The Sunrise co-host said.
“We’ve got ET one side and Access Hollywood the other side. These guys know what they’re doing … I’m basically just stealing all the people who stop for them. I just sort of butt-in. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails dismally,” she said.
Her colleagues back in Australia didn’t provide much help.
“Serena, Serena!” Barr was seen calling out to Venus and Serena Williams at one point as The Morning Show’s Kylie Gillies pointed out back at the studio: “That’s Venus,” as Larry Emdur chuckled beside her.
Even the lure of a Tim Tam wasn't enough for @sunriseon7 host @natalie_barr to tempt @serenawilliams or @Venuseswilliams for an #oscars red carpet chat!

“Would it be rude to put my mic in?” the Channel 7 star asked, looking exasperated as the reporter next to her chatted with the tennis stars, finally yelling: “We love tennis!” as the sisters walked away.
During another cross to the event, Barr furrowed her brow as she struggled to connect through to Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.
“Sorry I can barely hear you, it’s really, really loud here.”
In comments on clips posted to Twitter, viewers praised her efforts while weighing in that perhaps she wasn’t the right choice for the job.
“I like Nat, but she isn’t the right person for the red carpet job,” one person wrote.
“One needs to be loud and assert their presence more to get the actors’ attention.”
Another said they couldn’t get enough of Barr’s endearingly awkward attempts.
“I was crying laughing at Nat trying to get interviews … best interviewer ever !!!”
I know there is delay between LA & Sydney but the way Nat Barr just shut down Kylie Gillies on @TheMorningShow when she was trying to tell her why some chefs were carrying food around the red carpet was cringe worthy. Poor Nat looked flustered #LiveTV ð¢

Nat Barr, getting overlooked by most of the real Hollywood stars at the #Oscars
What an expense, hotel, dress satellites, for such little return.
But, it was, as she told Jamie Lee Curtis, "my first Oscars, what can I expect"?
