THERE have been some massive blunders at the Academy Awards over the years.

From reading out the wrong winners to a random stepping on stage to accept an award and then disappearing with it, here are the most cringe-worthy.

LA LA ... MAKE THAT MOONLIGHT

Arguably the biggest gaffe in all of Oscar history, Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner of the 2017 Best Picture award after co-presenter Warren Beatty was given the wrong envelope. Once the cast arrived on stage, the audience could see a panicked shuffling happening behind them, and it was soon announced that the actual winner was Moonlight.

WINNER WASN’T EVEN NOMINATED

Sammy Davis Jr was the first to announce the wrong winner at the 1964 Oscars when he was handed the wrong envelope and announced that an award for score was going to John Addison. But he was not among the nominees, leading to an extremely confused audience. Davis corrected his mistake and the award was presented to Andre Previn for Irma La Douce.

WHO WAS THAT GUY?

Alice Brady won her award for Best Supporting Actress in 1938 for the film In Old Chicago but was too sick to attend the event. So when her name was called, a man walked up to accept her award for her. Standard protocol, except for one thing. Nobody knew who the man was. The trophy vanished along with the man and was never seen again. Alice Brady died of cancer in 1939 before a replacement Oscar could be made.

CHEEKY MAN

Conceptual artist, photographer and gay rights activist Robert Opel had a reputation for streaking in the ’70s, but he took it to the Oscars’ stage in 1974 right before Elizabeth Taylor walked out.

AWKWARD MIC BATTLE

Roger Ross Williams and Elinor Burkett fought for the microphone when they won for Best Documentary Short for Music By Prudence in 2010. Burkett told Salon: “What happened was the director and I had a bad difference over the direction of the film that resulted in a lawsuit that has settled amicably out of court. But there have been all these events around the Oscars, and I wasn’t invited to any of them. And he’s not speaking to me. So we weren’t even able to discuss ahead of the time who would be the one person allowed to speak if we won.”

ADELE DAZEEM

Need we say more? That’s the name John Travolta blurted out when trying to welcome Idina Menzel to the stage to perform her rendition of Let It Go from Frozen in 2015.

HURRY UP AND CALL MY NAME

In 1948, Rosalind Russell was so sure it was her time to receive an Oscar after losing twice before, she stood up before the winner was announced. The Best Actress Oscar went to Loretta Young for The Farmer’s Daughter, leading to an embarrassing sit-down.

OOPS, WRONG FRANK

At the 1934 Academy Awards, Will Rogers announced the award for Best Director by simply stating: “Come on up and get it, Frank.” The problem was there were two Franks nominated. Frank Capra made his way up to the stage, but the winner was actually Frank Lloyd for Cavalcade.
